ASUS AX6000 WiFi 6 Gaming Router (RT-AX89X)

Have Ziply Fiber 2 Gig or 5 Gig internet service? Follow these steps to configure the ASUS router to get the most out of your internet and experience 2 Gig or 5 Gig speeds:

  • An SFP+ (with an RJ-45 connector) is required to terminate Cat5e or Cat6 cabling from the Optical Network Terminal (ONT).

  • The SFP+ should be plugged into the SFP port on the router.

  • The 10G WAN/LAN port on the router should be used as the LAN port.

  • Getting to the router GUI:

    • Connect to the router and navigate to:  http://router.asus.com

  • Select the ‘WAN’ option on the menu (to the left of the screen):

    • The ‘Dual WAN’ setting on the router will need to be changed to support the SFP Plus.

      • Selecting the ‘Dual WAN’ tab on the router GUI will take you to the setting to be changed.

      • Change ‘Primary WAN’ to the following selection ‘10G SFP+’.

      • Select ‘Apply’ to save changes.

  • In order to experience 2 Gig or 5 Gig speeds your connected device must be capable of experiencing such speeds.

    • Check with your device manufacturer to verify.

Why do you need an SFP (small form-factor pluggable) for Ziply Fiber’s 2 Gig and 5 Gig fiber internet?

The recommended ASUS WiFi 6 Router (RT- AX89X) has two 10G ports.

  • The first 10 Gig 10GBase-T port:
    • You will use this port for your LAN connection.
  • The second 10G port:
    • You will need the SFP+ to use this port for your WAN connection.

The two are reversible but one must be LAN and one WAN.
